Tech4Health is a subdivision within Aarogya Seva. Seva – a Sanskrit word that means ‘selfless service’ – is the core principle which drives the volunteers of Tech4Health. By pairing themselves with our organization, individuals are able to provide a lasting positive impact on the area in which they decide to volunteer. Volunteer of The Month
Our Volunteer of the Month this April is Aditi Sriram from Chennai, India who has volunteered with Tech4Health since the Summer of 2016. Aditi decided to join Tech4Health because her uncle’s passion for helping those in need and her own desires to work in the health care industry led her to volunteer with us. Early on in her life Aditi’s Uncle tried to help his community through treating those with leprosy. Aditi’s uncle never asked much in return from his patients and she never understood the gravity of his work until his funeral. At his funeral Aditi saw the immense positive impact that her uncle’s work had on the lives of her neighbors and it inspired her to have the same positive impact on the lives of those around her.
During her time volunteering with Tech4Health, Aditi has been able to help the lives of women throughout India by providing solutions to the health issues which result in low life expectancy due to socio, cultural, and economic barriers. By providing a thorough education on menstrual hygiene, sexuality, sexual health, cancer screening, cancer testing, abuse, rape, violence, and marginalization to Indian women she is directly impacting their lives in a positive way. Most people in India are not raised to discuss sexual matters openly, and when sexuality is taught, it is often done in negative terms. Tech4Health uses interactive animation videos and dialogue to create awareness among adolescent girls, teachers, parents and health workers about these sensitive and taboo subjects.
Through Tech4Health’s initiatives Aditi has also been able to provide a lasting positive impact on the lives of Women in the capital city of Bhopal in Madhya Presh, India. In Bhopal, Aditi worked with the health camp Medical Yatra in order to provide healthcare services to rural villages across the country. Every year it is Medical Yatra’s mission to set up their home base in a new city across India and they provide healthcare services to at least ten other neighboring villages.
One of Aditi’s roles while volunteering with Medical Yatra was to provide more notoriety for the MyCliniCare telemedicinal kit. The medical tools included within this kit are all meant to be utilized remotely so that doctors working in different locations may collaborate on providing a solution to a patient’s problems. One of the items included in this kit is the otoscope which is a video recorder that sends what it records to a computer or projection device. Unfortunately, there is always more for volunteers to assist with during this period in which Medical Yatra is attempting to
positively impact the lives of those in need through healthcare services. Luckily, there are hard-working volunteers like Aditi who are willing to help Medical Yatra and Tech4Health reach their objectives. Aditi hopes that in the future she is able to continue providing a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
